Young Aussies visit Kajiado Children’s Home through Australia’s youth development programme. The Australian Youth Development Programme is a Not-For-Profit Association whose vision is to instil a greater sense of self-belief and self-worth in all youth. The programmes philosophy stems from the belief that 'Leadership is any action that makes the World I touch a better place'
AYDP has been delivering programmes to school students since 1994. Due to its ongoing evolvement, it has been able to establish, what is now known as "The Leadership Journey" - a progressive programme destined to maximise your Student's growth and development. For a number of years AYDP have been taking students on trips to Tanzania, to Moshi Township, which lies in the shadow of Africa's highest peak, Kilimanjaro. Their students learn about another culture and experience new challenges and ideas on value systems. In return for the opportunity to live within the local community, and aside from sightseeing, the visiting Australian youth have the opportunity to share their own culture with local people and help out in hands on projects from teaching in primary school to painting and decorating! Sometimes there is the opportunity for construction work, all of which benefit the local communities and those in most need of help and support. November 2007 saw the first planned trip to Kajiado, Kenya. With a group visit to Kajiado Children’s Home en route to Tanzania. Further visits are planned in December and January, up to 60 students in all. It is hoped to develop a Safari / workshop in Kenya over the coming months and years and we look to link up with new found friends in developing an exciting ‘Kenyan Experience’ which will be beneficial to the young visitors and to the local Maasai communities alike.
